These data are based on the documents, information and data now available and may be changed when new knowledge or information is acquired. For the most current information, call Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation at +81-3-3296-3388, or by facsimile at +81-3-3296-3472.

Safe Handling
The following is an essential guideline to the safe handling of Tenac and Tenac-C, as supplied. Always follow this guideline when handling Tenac and Tenac-C. Please read the relevant material safety data sheet (available from Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation) thoroughly before use. Various additives and processing aids used in fabrication have their own safe use profile and must be investigated separately.

Health and safety
Polyacetal resins generate gases, principally formaldehyde, during decomposition. Avoid contact with skin and eyes when gases are generated in the drying and melting of the resin. Also do not breathe the above gases. Do not touch hot resin. Local ventilation and wearing of chemical resistant gloves, chemical safety goggles, etc. are necessary when the resin is dried and melted. In case of emergency, call one of the following:
    US: +1-800-424-9300 (Chemtrec)
    EU: +32-(0)-1458-4545 (BIG v.z.w.)
Japan: +81-44-271-2417 or +81-44-271-2561 (Asahi Kasei Chemicals)

Combustibility
As Tenac and Tenac-C are flammable, keep them away from heat, sparks, and flame during handling and storing. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water or foam extinguishants as extinguishing media.

Disposal
Burn in a properly equipped incinerator or landfill in compliance with all applicable regulations. Any disposal practice must be in compliance with local and national laws and regulations (contact local or state environmental agency for specific rules). During incineration, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated. Do not dump into sewers, onto the ground, or into any body of water.

Storing
Keep away from flame and heat sources. Avoid bag breakage, tearing, and water contact. Ensure stable, secure bag loading and stacking.

Molding
Tenac decomposes when the polymer is processed or held at temperature above 230°C (446°F) or molten polymer contacts a strong acid, base, oxidizing agent, or polyvinyl chloride.

Tenac-C decomposes when the polymer is processed or held at temperature above 250°C (482°F) or molten polymer contacts a strong acid, base, oxidizing agent, or polyvinyl chloride.

Promptly remove and discard any spilled pellets from the work area to prevent slips and falls.

Proscribed Applications
Never use Tenac or Tenac-C in any medical device or equipment designed or intended for intracorporeal implantation or direct contact with transfusion fluids.

Do not use Tenac or Tenac-C for tap water pipes for long-term installation, such as in-wall or ground-buried pipes, since prolonged contact with chlorine (disinfecting agent) contained in tap water may cause decomposition of the polymer.
