Caution : DELPET™
These data are based on the documents, information and data now available and may be changed, when new knowledge or information is acquired.
(1) Safe Handling
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on Delpet™ are available from Asahi Kasei Corporation｛here in after “Asahi”｝. Always consult the Safety data sheet. The following items are the summary of safe handling of Delpet™. These items are pertinent only to Delpet™ as supplied. Various additives and processing aids used in fabrication have their own safe use profile and must be investigated separately.
(a) Basic handling information
Delpet™ will not ignite, but do not use fire without reason and organize the things in work place. Avoid stagnation of airborne dust, because dust explosion may occur under existence of resin dust. All pneumatic transporters, bag filters, hoppers, and other such apparatus for handling this product must be effectively grounded, and take measures to prevent dust explosion such as nitrogen or other inert gas if necessary.
(b) Health and safety
Polymethylmethacrylate resins tend to generate methylmethacrylate gas in large part during decomposition. Avoid contact with a hot skin and eyes when gases are generated in the drying and melting of the resin. Also do not breathe above gases. Do not touch a hot resin. Local ventilation and wearing of chemical resistant gloves, chemical safety goggles, etc. are necessary when the resin is dried and melted.
As Delpet™ is flammable, keep away from heat, sparks, and flame when handling or storing Delpet™. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or incomplete combustion. Use water, foam and dry chemical extinguishants for extinguishing media.
Burn in an adequate incinerator or bury in landfill in accordance with all applicable regulations. Any disposal practice must be in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations (contact local or state environmental agency for specific rules). In incineration, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated. Do not dump into sewers, on the ground or into any body of water. Do not reuse empty bag and dispose of appropriately.
Keep away from flame and heat sources. Avoid bag breakage, tearing, and water contact. Ensure stable, secure bag loading and stacking.
Delpet™ decomposes when the polymer is held at temperature above 270°C (518°F). Pellets are slippery. Sweep with a broom and place in a disposal container.
We have grades suitable for UL, SAE use. For specifics, refer to our company. Asahi encourages its customer to review their applications of Asahi products from the standpoint of human health and environmental quality. To help ensure that Asahi products are not used in ways for which they are not intended or tested, Asahi representatives are willing to assist in dealing with ecological and product safety considerations.
(3) Inhibited applications
*Never use Delpet™ in any medical device or equipment designed or intended for intracorporeal implantation or direct contact with transfusion fluids.
*Never use Delpet™ in products which contact more 8% of alcohol. More than 8% of alcohol will tend to generate crack in Delpet product.
